What you will learn

  • Explain the difference between predictive and generative AI
  • Name the main types of generative AI
  • Understand copyright, accuracy and ethics concerns

Traditional AI analyses or predicts: is this email spam? Will this customer buy again? Generative AI goes one step further — it creates new content that did not exist before.

What generative AI can create

  • Text: emails, reports, stories, summaries and explanations
  • Images: illustrations, product mock-ups and designs from a written description
  • Audio: voice-overs, music and speech in many languages
  • Video: short clips and animations
  • Code: scripts, formulas and complete small applications

How it works (simply)

Generative models are trained on enormous collections of examples. A text model learns which words tend to follow others in which situations. When you give it a prompt, it builds an answer piece by piece, each time choosing a likely next piece. Image models learn the relationship between descriptions and pictures, then create a new image that matches your description.

Where it shines

  • First drafts — so you edit instead of starting from a blank page
  • Brainstorming many ideas quickly
  • Explaining difficult topics at your level
  • Turning rough notes into a clean, structured document

Where you must be careful

  • Accuracy: it can produce believable but wrong information (“hallucinations”). Check facts, numbers and names.
  • Privacy: do not paste confidential or personal data into public tools.
  • Copyright and honesty: follow each tool’s terms, and don’t pass off AI work as personal research where that isn’t allowed.
  • Bias: outputs can reflect biases in the training data.

Used thoughtfully, generative AI is like having a fast, tireless assistant. You still decide what is right — but you get there much faster.
